JULY in the garden

Have a rest!

In the middle of winter it is time for a well earned rest.

Do keep an eye on your stored tubers for rot, slaters etc. Remove any rotten tubers and make sure they haven't been exposed to the elements if stored outside or are still in the ground. Waterlogging is your biggest problem. The best way to safeguard if you have very wet ground is to lift. They can't drown in storage boxes. If tubers are doing well outside you can always lift and divide them just prior to planting. Remember, it is a lot more difficult to lift and divide without damaging the shoots once they have sprouted.

July is the time I like to check all my show essentials. For show equipment please check out the exhibition section .
